The Heartland Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication (STC) is formally known as STC—Heartland: Omaha/Lincoln Community of the Society for Technical Communication. Our Chapter covers eastern Nebraska and western Iowa, including the cities of Lincoln, Omaha, and Council Bluffs. If you are in our region and a member of STC, you are a chapter member.
STC is an individual membership organization whose aim is to help advance the art and science of technical communication for its members. Anyone whose work involves making technical information understandable and accessible to others, whether it's through words, pictures or sound, is welcome to join.
STC Heartland is the local chapter for members of the national Society for Technical Communication. Learn more about the Society and its goals at their Web site, www.stc.org. You can also visit our own Members page for information.
The objectives of the STC – Heartland: Omaha/Lincoln Community are to advance the arts and sciences of technical communication by encouraging research; developing educational programs and establishing scholarships; stimulating the exchange of information by means of publications, meetings, and conferences; recognizing outstanding accomplishments; and cooperating with other societies and institutions in mutually beneficial projects.
The Heartland Chapter's tentative bylaws are available for review by the membership. The bylaws were drafted in June 2007 and are currently under review by the active membership. The Heartland Chapter will be seeking official STC approval of this draft during 2007.
